It’s October, so it’s OK to use the C word in a prolific manner, right? Earlier on this year I found a bargain advent calendar kit and thought ‘ooh, I can get that done for next Christmas easily.’ Today I removed it from it’s packaging and discovered it was lacking instructions.
I’ve decided maybe today is the day to start the project, there’s been no phone call for work (see graph below) so sewing is Plan B.
I cannot believe I’ve left it so long to start it, particularly since I am also planning my son’s 5th birthday party as well as making other presents for various people. Still, a challenge is good for me and keeps me on my toes.
First step is probably looking online for instructions on how to turn this heap
into a calendar.
It also looks like I need to iron the fabric, one of my least favourite jobs. (Clumsy person + hot thing = inevitable disaster.)
How’s your Christmas craft coming on? Are you super organised or flying by the seat of your pants? Is it possible to make each day have 30 hours? (I’m thinking a Time Turner like Hermione from Harry Potter.)
I don’t really do the whole crafty thing…though i used to make teacup candles! But I do like buying gifts from craft fairs , especially at Christmas.Sad that the advent calendar doesn’t come with instructions. Hope you figure it out.x

I suspect it probably did have instructions, I think I’ve lost them! Whoops! π

Can’t wait to see what you make of this! (hopefully, you will not have any ironing injuries to recover from!)

Thanks, I’ve managed to make a good start already. Fingers crossed I’m not still finishing it on 30th November!

That would be my style!

I feel like I’m already mega behind on Christmas craft!

Me too, so much to do. I’ve started prioritising and focusing on the things needed first.

Flying by the seat of my pants? I can’t even find my broom in order to fly!
lol.
I am sending crafty vibes, out into the ether, to help you with your quest to make the ‘make’ with your ‘uninstructable’ kit. I’ve set the power to 70%, so you hopefully should get a download of ‘let’s do it kiddo’ anytime soon.
If it goes astray and you don’t receive it … I’m sending you love in the normal way. (and if I ever find my broom – I’ll fly over there to help!)
lol

Thanks very much, I think the crafts vibes are working. It’s going to be a long haul with all that hand sewing but it’ll be a treasure to use every year. x

I cant wait to see the finished calendar. Looks like it would be lovely!
I am sort of prepared. I always try to make handmade gifts, this year I have decided to try some new things. I have plans to make chutneys, hot choc mixes, body scrubs and butters, fudge and candles. I have the jars and all non perishable ingredients, and I have made a test batch of the jams and chutney. As they need to mature i plan to make the actual chutneys on the first weekend of november. Everything else i suspect will have to wait until december.

Very well planned out! I’m thinking an emergency batch of microwave fudge may come into play here in December!

Microwave fudge is a god send. Its a great way of bulking up a gift without having to head to the inevitably packed out high street!

It is if you’ve been smart enough to stock up on ingredients from cheapie shops like B & M and home bargains! Must do that in preparation. π

I do own a time turner, unfortunately it doesn’t work! I was thinking this year I should make Christmas ornaments as presents but it kind of defeats the purpose as you normally don’t hang ornaments after Christmas π€ need to find an idea soon! Good luck with the calendar, can’t wait to see how it turns out π

Thanks, I found the instructions and although they are about as much use as a chocolate fireguard I’ve just about worked out what I need to do. Now to actually do it…

I’m sure you can do it, MrsCraft, seeing what I’ve seen in the few short weeks I’ve been here… and in next to no time as well! π

Thank you, good luck to you too! Party preparation has taken over for now, must get the invites out otherwise there’ll be no party!

I would LOVE a time-turner like in Harry Potter! I’ve made a fairly good start on the Christmas presents, although I haven’t actually thought that much about what I need to make…

Oh my gosh, I hope you figure out the directions. I do fine with making up a pattern for myself and then making it with no preconceived notion of what it should look like. But if it’s a kit then I’m not very good at improvising. I can’t wait to see the finished product!

Thank you, I found the photo instructions but they weren’t that helpful! Fingers crossed it doesn’t look rubbish when it’s done.

Thank you, I found the instructions but I think I might have to make up a bit too as it doesn’t mention seam allowance or anything. I’m sure it’ll be fine, kind of!

Fab colours in there, even if you do need to get the iron out. I love things like this at Christmas, when you look around your home and realise it isn’t all from the shops but handmade (even in kit form). I made some clothing peg carol singers one year and they still make it on to the tree each year. I think its things like these that make Christmas π

Thank you, it was quite a well put together kit, apart from the fabrics all stretch differently which made sewing quite interesting!

I’ve almost finished the bulk of the sewing together now and I’m really glad, I’ll think again before buying another kit.
